Iām working on a project to connect archival field images with vouchered herbarium specimens which reside in separate physical collections and will likely have digital occurrence and media records in separate platforms. The field photographs and vouchers were collected and recorded 20-50 years ago but due to the documentation of the images and specimens, some, but not all, of the field images can be clearly understood to be images of individual organisms in situ or recently sampled as part of a collection event producing a preserved specimen which has a record and image in a natural history collection platform (in this case Symbiota). Our hope is to link the occurrence and observation records across separate platforms so they can be mutually discoverable and potentially the information in one platform can inform and/or modify the information in the other (for example when a voucher is identified, the field image taxon could be updated in the field image repository).
