When updating my profile recently I was Intrigued at the categories of GBIF volunteers.
For the majority of those categories it appears that they must be already committed to various fundamental principles such as Open Data and FAIR sharing.
The Ambassador category however works at the “chalk face” perhaps seeking to advocate, educate or persuade their audiences as to the value of those principles (and others)
As an editor of a small wildlife magazine in the UK that’s certainly my role.
We’re all listed on the GBIF website (Who are the GBIF Biodiversity Open Data Ambassadors?), just 100 of us. We’ve also got a recruitment page, an enquiry email address and the opportunity to post on the Forum (with one very helpful guide from 2020 at Resources for ambassadors) but that relates purely to presentations .
Perhaps some of the 100 would be interested in sharing stories of advocacy successes or otherwise away from the time limit and public gaze of the Forum.
If so all our email addresses are listed. perhaps we can gain some valuable teaching and advocacy tips from one another.
