So, reading this, for example, all the observations in the iNaturalist GBIF dataset are Human Observation. But, here this suggests that they should be Machine Observation. They have images from a machine that the observer used. Is that correct?

In this instance, the only evidence is recorded in literature, so this would be a material citation. Hope that is clearer now. Basis of record is quite a tricky term.
