Rubén Pérez-Pérez holds a degree in Biology from the University of Jaén, where he received the “Curriculum Platino” distinction. Later he specialized in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation through the EMBC+ International Master’s Programme — currently IMBRSea.

Between 2019 and 2025, he worked at the Flanders Marine Institute — VLIZ — as a Biodiversity Informatics Data Manager in global infrastructures such as OBIS and EMODnet, coordinating international working groups and contributing to the documentation, integration, and publication of marine biodiversity data. During this period, he also worked as a scientific diver, strengthening the connection between field data generation and its efficient management.

Since 2025, he has worked at the Coordination Unit of GBIF Spain — CSIC —, where he carries out training, standardization, quality control, and publication tasks related to primary biodiversity data. In this role, his work focuses on strengthening the capacity of Spain’s scientific community to preserve, structure, and publish data efficiently, connecting institutions and research projects with international biodiversity data infrastructures.

His profile combines a background in biological sciences and conservation with a career focused on biodiversity informatics, open science, and the FAIR management of scientific data.
