Using GBIF it’s kind of unavoidable to find errors. Wondering whether it is helpfull / contributes to correction to list them here in the forum?
In this record provided by Naturalis Biodiversity Center (NL) - Mollusca the country (Dominica, in the Lesser Antilles) is wrong. Should be Dominican Republic (Greater Antilles).
Approximate coordinates of the location listed on the lable (Pico Isabell de Torres):
19.763947°N 70.709798°W
Hi @mreith thanks for your question. Yes! it is helpful to list possible corrections, and there are several ways you can do it:
- You can write directly to the publishers of the dataset, in the contacts section of a dataset, you can find email and send them the specific feedback.
- You can also use the feedback option on GBIF.org. For some datasets it will give you the email directly or redirect you to another webpage. If not, it will log an issue on our GitHub repo Issues · gbif/portal-feedback · GitHub and we will contact them
- If you have feedback in general for a species, we invite you to use our Rule-based Annotations experimental tool, that lets you annotate several records by taxonomy or place. You can learn more about it here: Introducing Rule-based Annotations - GBIF Data Blog
The forum is more for discussion with other members of GBIF community, so for this particular feedback we will write to NL - Mollusca and let them know about your feedback.
Let us know if this answers your question or if you would like to know more about the options.
