I believe that one of the major uses for the integrated catalogue should be for it to offer precisely this kind of service, combining structured data, machine learning and human curation to offer APIs that take sets of informal identifiers such as InstitutionCode, CollectionCode and taxonomic group to return the identifier for the matching collection (or a ranked set of likely matches).
